SPECIAL EVENTS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS INTERNSHIP
May through December 2009
BASIC FUNCTION: The Special Events and Public Relations Intern will work closely with the Special Events and Public Relations Coordinator as well as serve as a member on one of the Festival committees. The goal of the internship is a real-world experience serving within a special event.
LEARNING GOALS:
Interns should expect to learn how to:
manage a sizeable event
contribute as part of a committee within a sizeable event
network within the community
organize, train and manage volunteers and work with current and potential sponsors
assist in updating and managing legacy documents to be used to duplicate the event in the future
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Attend monthly and/or regular meetings as part of the
committee.
Take notes at meetings, create records for legacy document
Serve as a liaison between committee and The Baby Fold
staff.
Duties as required by committee chair.
On-site work at The Baby Fold which may include computer
entry, document creation, printing/copying, and other tasks as necessary.
Regular reports to Events Coordinator on progress and
project deadlines.
Serving on-site at the Festival, November 18-22, 2009, or
as necessary; to include set-up of Event and tear-down of Event
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Event Planning, or related field.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability
to multi-task, organize efficiently, establish priorities, and attend to
details.
Ability to work cooperatively as a team member with other agency staff and members of the community.
Must pass drug screen and necessary background checks.
Reliable transportation within Bloomington-Normal community
required.
Demonstrated competence in serving a culturally diverse population. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse workforce.
Mission-oriented and willing to apply The Baby Fold’s standards and beliefs to the performance of job duties.
INTERNSHIP PLACEMENT: 15-20 hours per week (flexible) during the summer and fall semesters
