Full-time Residential Treatment Specialist
Residential Treatment Center
BASIC FUNCTION:
The Residential Treatment Specialist provides care and supervision for children
enrolled in the residential treatment program.
Also responsible for implementation of the behavioral treatment
program(s) for the children.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.
Treatment and Supervision
Creates a positive living environment for children, assesses individual
treatment needs of children, assists in the development of individual treatment
plans, implements treatment plans as approved by the interdisciplinary team,
evaluates outcomes of treatment interventions, and ensures the safety of
children through constant supervision.
2.
Special Person
Acts as a surrogate parent/advocate for individual children ensuring children’s’
individual needs are recognized and addressed through the establishment of a
child/adult relationship and by serving as a liaison between the child and the
child’s interdisciplinary team.
3.
Medical
Ensures children’s’ medical needs are identified and addressed by communicating
medical concerns to appropriate staff, implements standing orders and
physicians’ orders, seeks consultation from medical personnel, and seeks
emergency medical care when appropriate.
4.
Data and Documentation
Completes all required record keeping and data collection.
5.
P.I.C.O.S. (Person in Charge of Shift)
Performs as in-charge child care staff on shift with responsibility to ensure
children’s’ treatment and care needs are met, program shift assignments are
completed, and shift is appropriately staffed.
6.
Staff/Child Interaction
Communicates and interacts in a way which is developmentally appropriate,
positive, and helpful to the children’s’ treatment using proper tone, volume,
and cadence of voice. Maintains
professional boundaries with children and their families.
7.
Emergency Procedures
Ensures that children’s’ needs are met and children are protected in emergency
situations by following all emergency procedures and notifying appropriate
personnel in emergencies.
8.
Professional Conduct and Development
Works cooperatively, as part of a team, with other agency staff, external
agencies, and children’s families; participates in professional
meetings/training; ensures confidentiality; and problem-solves using the
agency’s communication model.
9.
Quality Improvement
Contributes to quality improvement through active participation in Quality
Improvement activities.
SECONDARY DUTIES:
Transportation
Transports children to and from activities in the community.
NOTE: Job candidates who meet the qualifications for Residential Treatment
Specialist, MHP are preferred and may be required in order to meet licensing or
certification standards.
1.
Must meet the definition of an RSA as defined in Part 132, Medicaid Community
Mental Health Service Program:
Must be at least twenty-one years of age with:
skills in the field of services to adults or children,
the ability to work within the provider’s structure and
accept supervision, and
the ability to work constructively with clients,
treatment resources, and the community.
2.
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Additional education preferred.
3.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
4.
Capacity to accept the supervision with the childcare program and to relate
constructively to authority.
5.
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with other staff and a variety of
persons external to the program, including representatives of other institutions
and agencies and parents of children.
6.
Physical ability to implement The Baby Fold’s approved physical crisis
intervention procedures.
7.
Knowledge of and skill in utilizing behavioral/social learning approaches to
working with children is desirable.
8.
Must pass drug screen and necessary background checks.
9.
Demonstrated competence in serving a culturally diverse population.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse workforce.
10.
Mission-oriented and willing to apply The Baby Fold’s beliefs and standards to
the performance of job duties.
11.
Ability to meet DCFS driver eligibility requirements is strongly preferred.
Mental Health Professional (MHP)
In
addition to meeting the qualifications for an RSA, must meet the definition of
an MHP as defined in Part 132, Medicaid Community Mental Health Service Program,
which requires one of the following:
Bachelor’s degree,
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN),
High school diploma and certificate of psychiatric
rehabilitation from a DHS-approved program with two years experience in
mental health or human services, or
Five or more years of supervised experience in mental
health or human services.

regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit.
The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger,

crouch. The employee must occasionally team lift and/or move clients up to 150
pounds; and physically restrain aggressive clients according to therapeutic
crisis intervention guidelines.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth
perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK HOURS: 40 hrs/wk; Four 10-hr shifts/wk, mostly second shift, including weekends and holidays (specifics discussed in interview)
