STAFF DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR
BASIC FUNCTIONS: The Staff Development
Coordinator is responsible for encouraging competence of Family and Community
Services employees through the development and delivery of quality training,
mentoring, coaching, and support.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides initial
training, ongoing mentoring, and job shadowing opportunities for foster care
staff in order to ensure that they develop the competencies needed to
successfully perform their job duties. Provides training on designated
topics.
Maintains
information on resources and disseminates information regarding community
training and resources for staff.
Provides
orientation for new employees and coordinates training within FCS, including
coordination of CORE sessions.
Measures success
of training program by seeking input and requesting evaluations on an
ongoing basis.
Maintains the
DCFS Rule and Procedure Manuals. Distributes written policy and procedure to
supervisors and staff and provides training as appropriate.
Ensures that foster care staff complies with DCFS paperwork
requirements as assigned.
Maintains a
system for responding to referrals and managing intake of foster care
information.
Gathers referral
information, coordinates with the Director of FCS and supervisors.
Facilitates ice
breaker meetings on new foster care cases.
Distributes life books to staff accepting new intake.
Assumes
supervisory responsibilities in the absence of foster care supervisors.
Attends court hearings,
Administrative Case Reviews, and child/family team meetings and reviews and
signs off on case documents for supervisors as needed.
Complies with
all pertinent state and federal laws, DCFS Rules and Procedures, the Code of
Ethics for Child Welfare Professionals, and other applicable professional
codes of ethics.
Fulfills the
contractual requirements of DCFS for Educational Liaison.
Writes annual Education Plan for DCFS Performance Contract.
Evaluates agency compliance with educational requirements.
Models the
agency’s core values of respect, integrity, teamwork, excellence, and
stewardship in all interactions.
Exercises
professional leadership by keeping abreast of current trends and
developments in field of responsibility.
Provides
training to supervisors and employees on topics related to field of
knowledge.
Represents the
agency in a positive light to active and potential clients, referral and
funding sources, and the public.
Utilizes
community contacts to advocate for clients and to promote child and family
welfare.
Completes all
required documentation according to agency guidelines for completeness,
accuracy, and timeliness.
Collects and
reports monthly statistics including information related to referrals,
admissions, and discharges.
Contributes to
quality improvement through active participation in Quality Improvement
activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree
in Social Work or a related field and two years of foster care work
experience.
Advanced working
knowledge of DCFS Rules and Procedures. DCFS Child Welfare Employee license
preferred.
Demonstrated
ability to explain child welfare and mental health principles to others.
Knowledge of and
skills necessary to apply the principles of child welfare and mental health
treatment to specific cases.
Willingness and
ability to work evenings and weekends.
Demonstrated
competence in serving a culturally diverse population.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse
workforce. Ability to communicate
effectively with client population.
Physical ability
to maintain the safety and well being of children for whom there is
responsibility.
Must pass DCFS
drug screen and background checks and meet DCFS driver eligibility requirements.
Ability to travel to and enter the homes of families in the service
area, including use of personal car with adequate insurance for travel
requirements.
Ability to work
cooperatively with staff within The Baby Fold, as well as with necessary
collateral contacts.

WORK HOURS: Full-time exempt position; Hours to be scheduled by supervisor.
