SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS
BASIC FUNCTIONS: The
Teacher Therapist plans, coordinates, and implements the assigned classroom
program. Additionally, the teacher
therapist provides classroom leadership and works in cooperation with the
teacher therapist assistant.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Plans, coordinates, evaluates, and implements a
comprehensive curriculum which meets the individualized behavioral, academic
and social needs of each student enrolled in the classroom and which is
directly related to each child’s Individualized Educational Plan.
Implements the clinical behavioral treatment
program according to guidelines, including individualized programming and
crisis intervention.
Implements social skills training and utilizes
social skills during the day.
Works with the teacher therapist assistant or
program assistant in a team teaching capacity, providing classroom
leadership and working in cooperation with him/her.
Cooperates with the administrative/supervisory and
support staff in planning for and scheduling programming and/or services for
the students and/or their families.
Collects, prepares and presents behavioral and
academic data on each child in the classroom.
Develops and implements lesson plans.
Inventories and orders supplies according to
guidelines and within the classroom budget.
Supervises and evaluates university special
education students, junior practicum students and/or expressive therapists.
Contributes to quality improvement through active
participation in quality improvement activities.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in appropriate area of special
education, specializing in teaching children with one or more of the
following disabilities: behavior disorders, emotional problems, learning
disabilities, speech and language deficits and/or developmental delays.
Certification with the State of
At least one year of teaching in a special
education program in a public or private facility is preferred.
Willingness and ability to work in an
interdisciplinary team structure.
Knowledge of and skill in utilizing behavioral
approaches with adolescents.
Must be able to implement non-violent physical
crisis intervention techniques according to The Baby Fold’s physical
management and crisis intervention procedures.
Must pass DCFS and Illinois State Police
background checks. Ability to meet DCFS driver eligibility requirements
preferred.
Demonstrated competence in serving a culturally
diverse population. Demonstrated
ability to work collaboratively with a diverse workforce.

WORK HOURS: 8:00
A.M. - 3:30 P.M., Monday through Friday following the school calendar, beginning
August 2008
