Ever Consider Being a Designer? What is Keeping You From Signing Up?

Every year new designers join the design team.  You do not need to be a professional designer to participate.  If you are not sure you know how, rest assured Jeffrey Alans can teach you! Continue reading “Ever Consider Being a Designer? What is Keeping You From Signing Up?”

Meet Martha Everman – Volunteer Spotlight

Today we talk with Martha Everman who has been helping to manage the finances for the Festival for a number of years.

How/Why Did You First Get Involved with the Baby Fold and the Festival of Trees?

I was hired at The Baby Fold in Oct 1996 as the Controller.  I retired in Oct. 2006 and volunteered to be Festival of Trees Treasurer then to keep my important connections at The Baby Fold. Continue reading “Meet Martha Everman – Volunteer Spotlight”

Meet Stephanie Calahan — Volunteer/Designer Spotlight

Today we talk with Stephanie LH Calahan about her experiences with The Baby Fold and Festival of Trees.

How/Why Did You First Get Involved with the Baby Fold and the Festival of Trees?

The Baby Fold has been a part of my life since I was born.  My grandparents were Wm A. Hammitt and Gwen Hammitt.  Gramps was the administrator of The Baby Fold for many years and my grandma was right by his side supporting his work.

But that is not the only reason that I volunteer for The Baby Fold.   I’m blessed that I was raised by a fantastic family that taught me the value of giving back.  Children have always had a special place in my heart and when I became a mom my feelings got even stronger.  The Baby Fold continues to embody work that speaks to my values. Interested in Being a Designer for the Festival of Trees?

Have you ever wondered what it is like to be a designer for the Festival of Trees?  People from all over the Midwest with varying levels of design experience participate every year!

Designers Pull Together More than Trees

The Festival is filled with amazing designs.  Most people think of the trees — and that is certainly possible -4 foot and 7 foot trees are available for designing.  But, did you know that wreaths, centerpieces, mantel pieces, stockings and table settings are also designed for the event?

Design Support is Available

If you have not designed for the Festival before, it is a bit different from decorating a tree in your home.  We make it really easy for you to learn what to do though!  We partner with Jeffrey Allans in Normal Illinois provides a Designer’s Workshop in mid-September to make sure you have all of the ideas and support that you need.

Want to Learn More?

Great!  We have a page dedicated to providing you information on being a designer as well as forms to make it easy for you to sign up.

I love The Baby Fold’s Festival of Trees and the community it celebrates. How do I get involved?

Each and every year, we hear someone say “I would love to be a part of Festival, but I’ve
never been asked to help“.  Well, consider this your official call to action!  Festival is successful because of the hundreds of dedicated volunteers, designers, and sponsors just like you! An event as large as Festival takes year-round planning and we could sure use your help!

Your gifts of time, talents, skills and creative abilities pull together for our mission statement to ring true: to create awareness of the needs of our most vulnerable children and their families, to raise funds for their needs and to create a wonderful holiday event for our community!

We can use your help for one hour a day, one hour a week, or one hour a year.

We are also always looking for volunteers, for Leaders and for new Steering Committee members to bring new ideas to our event to keep it fresh and new.
