Family Services Initiative provides counseling and
case management services to families that are determined
to be at risk for abusing or neglecting their children.
This short-term program assists families in accessing
the community resources they need to provide for their
families and is especially applicable for families
experiencing stress due to difficulties in managing
their children’s behavior, housing or employment
problems, or meeting the basic needs of the family.

Family Services Initiative is offered in a partnership
by The Baby Fold and the Illinois Department of Children and
Family Services.

Project Choices provides counseling and case
management services to teenagers who are under the
guardianship of the Illinois Department of Children and
Family Services and are new or expectant parents.
Project Choices ensures that these individuals receive
the education, health services, and support that they
need as they assume the responsibilities of parenthood.
Project Choices covers a nine county area and offers
services to pregnant and parenting teen wards of the
Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
This program is a result of the Hill-Erickson consent
decree and ensures that the pregnant wards receive case
management, medical, dental, educational, employment,
child care, life skills and parenting skills training
that will help them become successful parents.

Family Solutions is an intensive home-based program
designed to help families remain intact. This program is
a collaborative effort involving The Baby Fold, The
Children’s Foundation, Catholic Social Services, and the
Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. The
Baby Fold’s role is to provide administrative oversight,
including quality assurance.
This program began “start-up” in October of 2000, with
the first client being served in December of 2000. These
services are provided to “high risk” families that are
“open cases” for DCFS. DCFS has investigated and
indicated that these families have a high risk for abuse
and or neglect. The program provides casework, support,
counseling, education, advocacy and mentoring services
to these families. The Baby Fold is the lead entity of
this project, providing oversight and administrative
support to the other agencies and staff. The
collaboration between agencies allows us to get services
to families more quickly than in the past, which gives
the program a better chance of keeping families
together.
The Family Solutions program served over 100 families
in the first two years of its existence with a greater
than 90% success rate of keeping families together.

SECOND CHANCE
RENTERS PROGRAM
Second Chance
Renters Program is designed to help families obtain and
maintain safe and affordable housing. The program works
with potential tenants who have a poor credit or rental
history, giving them a second chance to become
responsible tenants. Participants in the program
complete training to improve their skills in obtaining
and maintaining housing. Participants also receive case
management services and are referred to landlords who
are willing to give them a second chance.
