A Letter from the CEO:

June 2011

Throughout the past year, The Baby Fold leadership has carefully reviewed its services in light of anticipated funding reductions due to our State’s budget challenges. One of the services we have evaluated is Horizons Counseling. Horizons Counseling was created five years ago to address an unmet need in our community by extending The Baby Fold’s expertise to more children and families who fall outside our usual criteria for services. Since 2006, there have been several additional counseling resources that have started or expanded services in our community.

Today, there are considerably more options for those seeking counseling and we would need to invest significant additional resources into this program to remain competitive. In this difficult economic climate, we are committed to directing our resources toward the most vulnerable children and families and staying focused on our core services.

In light of this focus and after thoughtful deliberation, The Baby Fold has decided to close Horizons Counseling by the end of 2011. During the past five years, Horizons Counseling has provided services to many clients. There are currently 19 clients who are being notified of this change. Counseling staff will work with individual clients to complete services or help them transition to another counseling resource as necessary. In the meantime, no new clients are being accepted. Upon closure, current counseling staff will continue to work for The Baby Fold in their primary employment roles.

This has been a tremendous learning experience for The Baby Fold as we created and operated this new business venture. Although we decided not to continue this program, we are pleased to have served all the clients we did, and thank all who have given their talent and time to support this program.
