Challenges Program

The Challenges Program is designed to address the educational and treatment needs of children with autism and pervasive developmental disorders.  A strong emphasis of Challenges is involvement of parents and the development of social skills that will allow the children to integrate more fully into their families and social environments.

County Outreach Program

Outreach services are provided to families living in rural McLean, Logan, and DeWitt counties who are referred by Tri-County Special Education Association.  Services include counseling, case management, behavioral interventions, advocacy, and referrals that the families need to help them meet their basic needs as well as special needs that the child or children in the family may have.     The goal of these intensive services is to strengthen families and to maintain students within their local school districts.

TRAINING AND CONSULTATION

In-Service and Staff Training

In-service training for teachers and other professional staff serving children is available to school districts and agencies.  Hammitt School staff with extensive expertise and/or training certification are available to provide workshops in a variety of specialty areas.  Interested individuals may obtain a list of training topics or may request a custom-designed training program.

Case Consultation

Hammitt School staff offer child-specific consultation to school districts that request assistance in designing effective interventions for particular children and their families.  These services are particularly beneficial with children that have multiple disabilities and when the school and family team need an outside party to help them collaborate on a plan that will meet a particular child’s needs.

Program Development

Hammitt School staff assist school districts, day care centers, churches, and other child-serving entities to shape their programming in order to accommodate the needs of children with multiple disabilities.

Diagnostic Assessments

Hammitt School staff work with local school districts in order to diagnose and develop educational and treatment plans for children with a variety of disabilities, including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, impulse control disorders, speech and language disorders, and social emotional disorders.
